Hi Folks
It’s been another busy week with all our teams in action in the League and County Competitions. There is no let up next week too, with League, County Competitions and cup games being played.
Today, we hosted our first Touring side from Wiltshire in a 7 rink game, which we won quite convincingly. Our top rink was Jacqui Morris, Jean Gibbard, Glyn Hughes & Phil Smith who were ahead 31-0 after 16 ends, despite trying their hardest to let their opponents get some shots, and eventually won 31-6! Even Jacqui did her best by pretending the jack had a bias on it and bowled it out of the side of the rink. Also, our Ladies’ A Team Captain bowled a wrong bias during the game, but we are still waiting for her £1 donation to charity.
Nevertheless, a very big thank you to everyone who played and to those who helped out with teas, drinks from the fridge and the raffle. Your generosity of prizes for the raffle and ‘Spider’ is tremendous, as we made a pure profit on them of £109 on the raffle and £36 on the Spider – thank you again. Our visitors certainly enjoyed their drink and spent approx £240, though this means we have to restock once again before our next touring game on Wednesday!
Finally, I cannot finish without telling you another amusing story: Glyn Hughes came down to the green on Thursday evening to play in the Senior Fours. At 5.20pm he was asked which team he was playing for and replied he was in Steve Morris’s rink, to be informed that Steve’s team were playing at Sandown! A few choice words were expressed by Glyn before he shot off to try to get there in time but, fortunately, Steve was contacted, who then told Glyn that he wasn’t in his team after all, so he went home.
Twenty minutes later, Pat Barsdell arrived to find out what had happened and urgently contacted Glyn to tell him that he was actually playing for his team, so Glyn had to rush back down to the green! However, perhaps getting Glyn into a rage is one way of motivating him as he had a fantastic game and his team won!
Good luck to everyone playing this week.
Don’t forget the President’s Open Day on 2 June.
