Hi Folks
Euros Football over and lots of hangovers & headaches this morning. I expect we will all read and hear all the experts on TV telling us how they could have done a better job at managing the team! Let’s see – Lineker, Ferninand, Richards & Wright have never managed a team, and Shearer took Newcastle down to the Championship! Wimbledon is done for another year too, which makes Sue very happy, with Homes under the Hammer, Bargain Hunt & Emmerdale back in their regular spot (she hasn’t seen that the Lionesses are on ITV on Wednesday evening!) I don’t know what she will do when the Olympics start in a couple of weeks!
So, what have we got to look forward to now? Fortunately, there are some exciting bowls games to watch this week. Sharon Hartill has got her Champion of Champions Regional Final on Thursday at 12 noon against Annie Morris (Shanklin) and on Sunday, there are the Men’s County Competition Finals at Sandown, where Ray Byham, Steve Lewis, Rog Payne & Dave Gustar are in the Fours against Mike Cox, Myles Farrington, John Crews & Martin Butchers at 2pm.
In addition, we are hosting two Men’s National Regional Finals on our green. On Friday (19th) at 6pm, Shanklin are playing in the Top Club against Branksome Park from Dorset, then on Sunday (21st) at 5pm they are in the Two Fours against the same team. This is a great endorsement for Rob & his greenkeeping team who have kept our green playing so well once again this season, that other clubs want to use our green for such important games.
Congratulations to our Ladies A Team who beat Bembridge (a) last week in the first round of the Island Top Club, and now have another tough game against Sandown (a) in the next round.
If all that isn’t exciting enough, of course we are still in the middle of all the Internal Competitions, which have turned up some interesting results so far. Don’t forget that the top named player/team should give your opposition a choice of dates well before the deadline and book your rinks beforehand. Also, always check, before you start playing that nobody has already booked that rink. Make sure that ALL equipment is returned after the game – we have had some complaints from members that they have had to put away things from other rinks.
