Hi Folks
A big thank you to everyone who came to the Closing Day on Saturday. We were fortunate to have good weather but it was a great afternoon, with lots of fun and plenty of bowls, washed down with drinks and doughnuts!
A big thank you also to our President, David Dawson & our Chairman, Mark Baker, who took on the role of Chief-Presenter throughout the proceedings, and who tried to keep us all (unsuccessfully) in order!
There were three games of Fours with six ends each; the first game was the usual game then in the second one we had to bowl with our opposite hands. You have never seen so much chaos – bowls going everywhere, with very few going near the jack. In fact, the skips had to keep a close eye on what was happening to avoid spraying chalk on a bowl from another rink that had touched the jack on another rink! Although my team suggested that I should stick to bowling with my left hand as (in their view) it was much better than I do with my right hand – how rude (but possibly true!)
Then there was the final game, with each team bowling their woods then the jack was bowled (very badly by Steve Lewis and Rob) under the instructions of the skips in turn. Confused? We certainly were but it helped that shots of Whisky, Bacardi & Wine were given for those whose wood touched a bowl, so we didn’t really care in the end!
Congratulations to Liz’s Team, who won the competition overall but the main thing was that we had a lovely afternoon and lots of laughter coming from all three rinks. Many people said that we must do something like this on a regular basis next season – let’s hope so!
