Hi Folks
Another successful game this week when we hosted Henleaze BC, who are on tour from Bristol. They were a smashing group of people who were intent on enjoying themselves and brought a very interesting slant to the game.
They introduced a rule that anyone from either team, who touched the jack with their bowl, could go to the table that they had set up on the side of the green, and could take a shot glass of Whisky, Gin or some other type of Liqueur. I have never seen such concentration during the bowling and such fast footwork from 60+ year olds, dashing to to get their drink – perhaps we should intriduce this in all our League and Cup games! Mind you, it is a good job that our visitors travelled back to the hotel by coach or the police would have had a very busy day stopping them all to breathalise them!
Although enjoyable, it was nice to report that we won 89 – 60, but there were some close tussles on the green between some rinks. However, thanks must go to everyone who played in the game, and especially to Geof Hughes, who filled in at the last moment for our visitors, as someone had become ill that morning. Many thanks also to Rob, who once again was down the green early to get everything ready for the game; to Chris & Phil who helped with the refreshments and clearing up afterwards; to Sandra and Cherry who looked after the raffle and finally to everyone who donated all the prizes for the raffle, meaning that it was all profit on money taken.
It was a very profitable afternoon too. We made £93 on the raffle, £200 on drinks from the fridge and £120 in rink fees. Our visitors wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who was involved and stated that they were made to feel very welcome.
